The 4E’s (Ethics, Epistemology, Erudition, Economics & Enterprise) of our “Soulidarity Economy” are juxtaposed with our Hikmah (perennial wisdom) praxis of Soulidarity; of Ihsan, Ishq, Ilm & Amal , constitute the core tenets of iSRA’s CARE model, which in turn, aims to bridge the spiritual / material divide in the socio-economic developmental sectors primarily within the Islamic communities invoking a new realisation of solidarity in the spirit of Khair (joy of giving) & Mawakhat (brotherhood).

iSRA E1 - Ethics

Adab

In their book 'Integral Dynamics', Lessem and Schieffer, postulate an integral rhythm  embedded in a community or society's journey to transformation. Every society has at its core a natural vitality  drawing on it's biological as well as ecological roots. Therefore our starting point, in contrast with conventional economic analysis, or business administration, is not being economically or commercially competitive, but rather ‘being naturally and communally vital’. It is such vitality which becomes the source of ongoing transformation, duly and continually re-vitalised as community, polity, economy and enterprise mutually reinforce one another. In other words, our transformative ‘reason for being’ is not a market mechanism but a natural organism, imbued with a flow quality, and a continuing interchange between diverse elements. In other words, the core stimulus for transformation lies in the ‘trans’, that is in the creative interaction between one phase of development and another, between one world and another, between one discipline and another, or between individual and institution.

Therefore, the first tenet of iSRA's  Soulidarity Hikmah praxis is Ihsan which is the quest for perfection and a constantly striving for 'virtuous beauty'. From the mystical (Sufi) tradition, it is understood as Adab. Its earliest meaning is close that of Sunnah, the living tradition of the Prophet of Islam, in the sense of ‘habit, hereditary norm of conduct, and custom,’ but over time it comes to denote ‘high quality of soul, good upbringing, urbanity and courtesy.’

It designates virtue or an Islamic practical ethics ‘under the impress of scripture, tradition, legal theory and practice, and theological theories of action’ (Lenn E. Goodman).

iSRA E2 - Epistemology

Islamic Philosophy offers a comprehensive overview of Islamic philosophy from the ninth century to the present day. Within this tradition, philosophizing is done in a world in which prophecy is the central reality of life— a reality related not only to the realms of action and ethics but also to the realm of knowledge.
